BUY FOR FUNCTION. NOT FLEX.
Before you spend, check measurements, compatibility with your oven, the manufacturer’s care instructions and whether the item fits your existing kitchen. Prices and stock change; confirm directly with the retailer.
A PROPER DEEP BAKING DISH
Look for an oven-safe dish about 23 × 33 cm with at least 6 cm depth. Ceramic is attractive at the table; metal can give more aggressive browning at the edges. Pick the one that fits your oven and your washing-up routine.
ESSENTIAL / SIZE MATTERS MORE THAN BRANDA WIDE HEAVY PAN
A pan with enough room to brown mince in batches is far more useful than a fashionable brand name. Stainless steel, cast iron or a quality heavy-bottomed sauté pan can do the job. Overcrowding means steaming, not browning.
ESSENTIAL / GOOD BROWNING BUILDS FLAVOURA WIRE WHISK
No need for an elaborate sauce machine: a medium balloon whisk keeps gluten-free béchamel smooth as you add milk gradually. Get one that feels balanced in your hand and reaches the corners of the saucepan.
ESSENTIAL / CHEAP IS FINEA FINE GRATER
Freshly grated hard cheese disperses more evenly than thick pre-shredded pieces. A fine grater also handles lemon zest for optional ricotta layers. Use a protective grip and keep your knuckles well clear.
USEFUL / NOT A STATUS SYMBOLGLUTEN-FREE PASTA SHEETS
For the published recipe, allow 200–250 g of gluten-free lasagne sheets. The preparation instructions vary by brand: check whether they need pre-cooking and how much moisture they require. Verify allergen labelling.
